KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Kingsport City Schools is proud to announce that Dr. Stacy Edwards, Principal at Johnson Elementary School and Dr. Brian Partin, Principal at Robinson Middle School, have been selected as 2019 National Distinguished Principals (NDP) from Tennessee.  Dr. Edwards has been selected as the elementary level NDP and Dr. Partin has been selected as the middle level NDP.

"I am thrilled for both Dr. Edwards and Dr. Partin... They are exceptional leaders in their fields and incredibly deserving of this recognition," said KCS Superintendent Dr. Jeff Moorhouse.  "This honor is reflective of the high quality of education in Kingsport and the commitment to excellence that we expect.  Both principals are quick to point out the award is not about them, but the great work being done by the teachers in their buildings.  I know our community shares in the pride these recognitions represent."

Dr. Edwards has been the Principal at Johnson Elementary School since 2012. He has focused on facilitating positive change in school culture and climate, and implementing the “Leader in Me” program for all students, which promotes student leadership.  Most recently, Dr. Edwards was recognized as the 2019 Kingsport City Schools “Principal of the Year.” He received his doctorate degree in 2018 from Lipscomb University in Nashville.

Dr. Partin has been the Principal at Robinson Middle School since 2015.  During his tenure at Robinson, Dr. Partin has focused on enhancing the collaborative culture with teachers and staff and on implementing support programs that focus on the academic and social-emotional needs of students. He served as the President of the National Association of Elementary School Principals in 2017-18. Dr. Partin also received his doctorate degree in 2018 from Lipscomb University in Nashville.

The National Distinguished Principals Program, established in 1984, recognizes excellence in elementary and middle level Principals’ school leadership.  Dr. Edwards and Dr. Partin will have the opportunity to attend the National Distinguished Principals Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC in October where they will be recognized as Tennessee’s 2019 National Distinguished Principals.
